A surprise engagement proposal at Bachalpsee Lake with a couple from Texas. Afterwards a Bachalpsee lake photo shoot.
I agreed to meet Ryan at the top of the Grindelwald First cable way. We made contact. Rebeca was unaware of my presence. I started walking ahead of them and waited at Bachalpsee Lake. I followed them as they walked towards the lake, ready with my camera. It does happen very quickly. Ryan goes down on one knee and proposes. Hugs and kisses afterwards.
This is a popular location. There are people everywhere! You have to zoom in on the picture and take a closer look. I have extra work editing them out of the background in Adobe Photoshop.
It’s an open area. No shade anywhere. A beautiful location in the sunshine and a challenge for photographers.
You should allow at least one hour to walk to Bachalpsee lake. Unless you are super fit hikers! It’s not a flat trail. There are plenty of hills to climb! Remember that you are walking at an altitude of over 7,000 feet.
There are no shops at Bachalpsee Lake. No bus service. You have to take a backpack with water and food. Be prepared for bad weather. The clouds can appear from no where and roll in very quickly. The temperature will drop very quickly. Always carry extra clothing. The weather forecast for Grindelwald does not apply to Bachalpsee Lake.
The bus service indicated on the yellow sign at Bussalp only operates during in the season. It does not operate in bad weather. I strongly recommend the Grindelwald First cable way as the quickest way back to civilisation.
In the event of an emergency call 1414 on your cell phone for the REGA helicopter rescue service. It’s expensive and hopefully your insurance will pay!
