Engagement on Grindelwald First

A marriage proposal at an elevation 7,165 feet or 2,184 metres on Grindelwald First. A surprise engagement in the snow in May 2024 with a lovely couple from the USA.

Roger had taken my advice and planned to propose to Kelly as early as possible. They took the 07:34 train from Interlaken Ost and arrived in Grindelwald at 08:10. We was on the same train but I was unknown to Kelly.

They walked through the town. I took the bus. The bus departs 3 minutes after the train arrives in Grindelwald!! I was ahead of them on the gondola up to First.

It’s a 25 minute ride on the gondola up to Grindelwald First.

They followed me across the snow at a distance to the viewpoint by “Gems hut”. The area we used can be fenced off in the summer. Close by is the take off point for paragliders. I positioned myself between Roger and Kelly and the Eiger mountain. My heart sunk when a group of 11 paragliders walked between the couple and the Eiger mountain. They kept on walking down the mountainside to the location used in “Crash Landing On You”.

First is a mountain location and minor summit on the slopes of the Schwarzhorn mountain above Grindelwald in Switzerland. It is well known as a cable car station above Grindelwald and as a popular starting point for a hike to hiking Bachalpsee It is also the finish of the Schynige Platte-Faulhorn-First hike.

There were a lot of tourists arriving at 9.30 a.m.

Strong, early morning sunlight creates a lot of contrast in the pictures.

Please remember…

To position you and your girlfriend like this at an angle of 90 degrees to the camera. Not between you and the camera with your girlfriend facing me. Try to have her back to the sun to avoid shadows on her face.
