Interlaken Switzerland is so popular

Why is this Swiss town so popular? I found it difficult to understand why Interlaken Switzerland was so popular when I arrived over 20 years ago. It’s a big tourist destination for people from around the world. I wondered why and I soon found out.

It is a pretty Swiss city situated in between the Thunersee lake in the west and Brienzersee lakelake in the east. The Interlaken Gemeinde is sandwiched between Unterseen and Matten. Close by are the smaller towns of Bönigen, Goldswil and Ringgenberg on the Brienzersee lake. To the south is Wilderswil. All these places should be considered when looking for accommodation as well as the small villages not mentioned.

Interlaken is a popular place to be officially married. More information here → The official ceremony is in the Schloss Interlaken. (picture below). More details here: https://www.pom.be.ch/pom/de/index/zivilstand-pass-id/zivilstand/externe_zeremonielokale.html. Check out the official wedding locations on the Harder Kulm in Interlaken and at the Grand Hotel Giessbach.

Interlaken Guest Card
Interlaken Guest Card

Guest Card for Interlaken gives you free travel on all the buses and discount in some shops and restaurants[/caption]

Several of my clients have not known about the “Guest Card”. Their hotel never mention it. It can be found on the desk in the reception. (Check out my picture below.) The “Guest Card” service obtainable from the reception of the hotel. It gives you free bus travel in the district. Plus discounts in some shops and restaurants. You can travel, for free, by bus to Iseltwald. Check your hotel for more details. The official website with more information is here.

I believe that one of the main reasons Interlaken Switzerland is so popular is the region that surrounds it. It offers impressive scenery for you to explore. Lakes and high mountains. The Swiss Alps and the Jungfrau region is a spectacular area. There are hundreds of signposted hiking trails.

Some of the hiking trails like the trail to Bachalpsee lake involve the use of cable cars. However there are plenty of trails scattered around Interlaken. Travel for free on the buses to a location using the free Interlaken Guest Card that I have previously mentioned on this page. I have several hikes published on the Kamoot hiking app.

Not a hiker? Use the Interlaken Guest Card for free travel on the bus to Ringgenberg Church and castle ruins. Or a visit to Iseltwald. The guest card will give you discount on the ships and the Harder Kulm railway.

Schloss Interlaken
The official marriage ceremony is here in the Schloss Interlaken.
Interlaken
The main street in Interlaken Switzerland is Höheweg. The world class VGrand Hotel Victoria Jungfrau is overshadowed by (in my opinion) “ugly” Metropole Hotel.
Hoheweg Interlaken
Interlaken has a team of gardeners responsible for beautiful floral displays throughout the year .
