I was at the pier this morning (May 10, 2023) at 6.30 a.m. waiting for a couple. It was raining! I took a couple of pictures to give you an idea of what it is like at that time. See below. Not idea conditions.
I prefer a morning with cloudy skies. It’s a challenge when sunrise comes with clear blue skies. The sun is low and sunlight is bouncing off the lake creating crazy shadows.
I often suggest an early photo shoot at the Iseltwald pier. I was with a couple recently who arrived in the middle of the morning. They had traveled from Basel and we met at Interlaken Ost railway station. There were many people by the lake but only 4 couples waiting to use the pier. Perhaps because of the turnstile.
Iseltwald Pier Turnstile
People seem content to pay CHF. 5.- to walk on the Iseltwald Pier. (Cash or credit card.)
See my pictures of the turnstile here: Iseltwald Pier Turnstile
Iseltwald earns little income from the hordes of tourists that invade their picturesque village. It has to pay for someone to clean up the trash littering the pier area after the tourists have left.
Editing pictures
I will show you the pictures on the monitor in my camera. I have to edit them afterwards in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. I adjust the brightness, color, shadows etc. The pictures on my/this website give you an idea of what to expect after editing.
I have to take a break when editing to give my eyes a rest from staring at the monitor. I use an EIZO monitor.
All this takes time!
I edit the first 100 pictures on the same day as the photo shoot. (When the photo shoot is in the morning.) You will be sent a link to your web gallery. The rest of the pictures will be edited over the next 2 days.
I am also answering e-mails whilst editing pictures. It will delay the editing if somebody is sending me a lot of e-mails.
Answering E-mails
My e-mails might seem a little abrupt.
Most of the e-mails will ask about my availability on a certain date. I have to check my diary.
Some e-mails will ask my advice. These take longer to reply too. I have to think about what I have to write. Cable car be operating times, etc. You will want me to answer honestly and not mislead you. I also have to judge as to whether the e-mail is genuine or spam. Or somebody trying to get ideas and having no intention of using me.
Thanks in advance for your understanding!
I will work in the rain. It can leave streaks on the pictures. I photographed a Japanese wedding couple recently in the rain! My Japanese agent in Tokyo sent me an e-mail afterwards in which she wrote, “The photos are fantastic, I did not imagine the photos could be so great as it was really bad weather.” All my clients’ web galleries are hosted here →
