A surprise proposal of marriage on the Jungfraujoch on the 1st January, 2023 at an elevation of 3,454 meters (11,332 feet). You have to take it easy up here because you are going to feel the effects of the altitude.
There were a lot of people on the “Plateau” and it went very quiet as Hongyi went down on one knee. It certainly felt like a magical moment when everyone goes quiet. I hear “Oh My God” from some of the people behind me. Then there is a big roar and a shout of “Congratulations” from some of the onlookers.
We move to another part of the Plateau for more pictures. More people walk past us and say “Congratulations”. A memorable moment in the lives of this lovely couple from the USA.
This was photographed by me as it happened. Not staged. I pretended to be a landscape photographer with my camera on a tripod. Hongyi came over and asked me to take a picture of him and his girlfriend. I was able to place them in a better position in front of the mountains.
